What are we doing?
We will be walking from York to Selby (20 miles) on Sunday the 1st of February 2009.
Our Aims:
The walk aims to raise money to be given to a non-partisan and non-religious charity that has been doing, and will continue to do vital work in supplying aid (whether food, medical or other essential items) inside the Gaza strip.
The idea of this campaign is to avoid taking sides on the issue and getting into unproductive arguments; but rather to bring as many people as possible together to stand united in their concern for the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the plight of the people living there. We feel that our chosen charity suits this aim well, which is why we have selected it over other more high-profile charities currently involved in providing aid to Gaza.
The Charity: Mercy Corps
The chosen charity, Mercy Corps, is an international humanitarian charity working across the world in communities experiencing disaster, conflict or economic collapse to support community-led positive change. They are currently distributing food boxes and other essential supplies to Gaza, and are using a Gaza Crisis Fund to support this work, to which the money raised will directly go.
