Story
I'm taking on the Cardiff Half Marathon 2021 (postponed to 27th March 2022) for my Nan and to support families facing dementia across the UK.
My nan is diagnosed with Vascular Dementia. This is a common type of dementia caused by reduced blood flow to the brain and estimated to affect around 150,000 people in the UK. From a young age, I have shared a strong bond with her and she has been the only grandparent I have had. To see my Nan go through this is heart breaking but she has received brilliant support from her carers and I wanted to give something back.
Dementia UK provides specialist dementia support for families through their Admiral Nurse service. When things get challenging or difficult for people with dementia and their families, Admiral Nurses work alongside them, giving them compassionate one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions that can be difficult to find elsewhere.
From July 2021 until race day in March 2022, I will be pushing myself to train and prepare for the half marathon. I will be posting on social media my training, raising awareness on dementia and build up to race day.
Any donations will be greatly accepted, your positive comments will definitely motivate me and I would love to have your support on race day!
Let's get it done! #TeamDementiaUK
