Story
The South West Coast Path is a long distance trail of 630 miles. To complete it entails climbing 115,000 feet, just short of four Mount Everests.
In 2018 I first started to walk this Path walking 40 miles that year and a similar distance in 2019. It was a shock when just a few days after the latter walk, I suddenly had a Spinal Stroke. Within a few minutes I could not move my left arm or leg.
It took the skill of the surgical teams and the care of the nursing staff at Southampton University Hospital to restore my mobility. Unfortunately I suffered an infection following the operation but again the skill and care of NHS staff ensured my full recovery. Soon afterwards the pandemic lockdown delayed my further walking of the path but I walked 64 miles in 2021 to prove to myself that I could still walk distances day after day.
So, I now have 480 miles to complete the whole of the path and my aim is do this with two weeks in June 2022, two weeks in September and finish in October although due to other commitments I may not finish until early 2023.
I would like to raise funds for the Wessex Spinal Service at Southampton University Hospital which provides specialist care to people of Dorset, Hampshire, IOW and West Sussex. This is to say thank you to all the staff there and benefit future patients.
