Story
This year I'm running London marathon on 2nd October 2022, this is something I've watched since a kid and thought they must be mad running that far! I took up this challenge a few years ago and completed the Virtual Marathon through the pandemic but I have had a niggling feeling in the back of my mind that it wasn’t the real London Marathon so I’m doing it again, I must be mad!!!!
I took up running (something I hated as a kid!) five years ago after a frank conversation with the doctor. Since taking up running I have set myself challenges along the way completing a couple of 10k’s, two Oxford Half’s and the Virtual London Marathon in 2020 and now it's the Big City. I have been training for the last 16 weeks which have been hampered with injury (old age) but after some rest I’m back on track and hopefully ready.
Running this distance/challenge is made easier and more rewarding by raising money for a great cause. I'm raising money for "Get Kids Going" sport and mobility for disabled children.
Get Kids Going! is a national charity which gives disabled children and young people up to the age of 26 yrs, the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport. They provide them with
specially built sports wheelchairs so they can do athletics, marathons, tennis, skiing, curling, rugby, sailing, boccia, basketball, snowboarding, table tennis, fencing, shooting, archery, powerlifting and many more sports. Get Kids Going! inspires British disabled youngsters to compete in sporting events, from start to Paralympic level, by also giving them sports grants to help with their training, physiotherapy, sports psychology, travel, competition fees, design and development of sports equipment etc. With your help many can become world record holders and Paralympic champions!
