Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

January 4th 2020 marks 6 years since my Dad, Sean O’Toole, was suddenly taken from us at the age of 45, as a result of Viral Myocarditis (Inflammatory Cardiomyopathy).

This year I will be taking on the challenge of running the 2020 London Marathon in his memory. This is my chance to do something in his memory and celebrate the amazing person he was, while also raising vital funds for Cardiomyopathy UK.

This is my way of giving back and the vision of Cardiomyopathy UK mirror my values for awareness to help others. It also provides an opportunity to share memories of Dad by sharing his story and hearing yours here. We can reflect more on happy memories.

Dad was someone who could light up any room he was in with great humour and most notable his memorable "Laugh" (cackle). His humour and love carried us, and others, filling them with happiness.  As you may or may not know, he was a massive Wolves fan following them through thick and thin. I think dad would’ve been overjoyed to see Wolves back up in the Premier League and even succeeding somewhat in Europe!

Aside from football, he loved his music, especially following The Jam, Madness, The Who among others! His huge collection of CDs (what are they now?) and vinyls speak for themselves, and his taking up the guitar at 40 expanded his knowledge and love.

For me, Dad was a true gentleman who had the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone, teaching me anything is possible no matter what life throws at you.

At the time, I combined a couple of poems and asked them to be read out by Liam to help remember our Dad at his funeral, words which are still so apt today.

Wonderful memories woven in gold
There is a picture I tenderly hold.
Deep in my heart, a memory is kept
To love, to cherish, never to forget.

Gone is the face we loved so dear,
silent is the voice, we loved to hear.

In all the world we will not find,
A heart so wonderful and kind.

You left us so soon, your thought unknown,
But left us memories we are proud to own.

Overall, there are so many wonderful memories we will cherish forever, Dad was a kind and generous person who was a great friend, uncle, father, brother and son. If you can, please sponsor me in raising money to both remember my dad and also raise awareness and fight cardiomyopathy.

We would also love to hear your memories – please comment below.
