Story
On Sunday 25th September 2011, a number of the Hosford House staff team and residents will be taking part in a sponsored triathlon in Portmarnock, Co. Dublin.
The team are hoping to raise funds to support the work of the Hostel.
Hosford House is a homeless hostel based in Belfast which provides accommodation and support to homeless people. We strive to create a safe and caring space where people can rebuild their lives.
Our residents include people fleeing domestic violence, people recovering from addiction, people with mental health problems, people leaving prison and other institutions and many people who have experienced crisis and trauma and find themselves without a home.
Empowerment is at the core of what we do. The money rasied through the triathlon will go into our programmes which aim to give people dignity, stability, confidence, a sense community, fun and many other benefits.
We run an alotment where staff and residents receive training in gardening and horticulture and grow fruit and vegetables. We also have a football team and have established the first street soccer league for marginalised people in Northern Ireland. Players have the opportunity to partcipate in the Homeless World Cup and to avail of training in coaching and refereeing.
We have many other programmes which give people a chance to break out of the cycle of homelessness. All of these programmes rely heavily on donations.
