Story

Thanks for taking the time to read my story about why I am running the London Marathon.

This year, on 23rd April 2023, I will be running the London marathon to raise funds for the charity Guide Dogs. Guide Dogs is a charity that provides guide and buddy dog services,  mobility training, education support and sighted guides to people living with sight loss allowing them to live more independently.

Guide Dogs is a charity close to my family’s heart; a charity I grew up with. My Mum supported them monthly for 30+ years and always made sure to talk to any volunteers when she saw them, something I have memories of dating back to from when I was a child.

I want to run for Guide Dogs because my Mum is no longer here, she passed away in September 2022 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Before she died she made sure that my brothers and I promise to continue to support Guide Dogs and other charities that were close to her heart, something that we have all done. I know she would be beaming with pride and happiness if I told her I was running for Guide Dogs, and that’s something pretty special.

Love you Mum x

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
