Story
Thank you for visiting the fundraising page for the "AfricanPorsche Expedition" 2008! This October a plucky group of adventurers will be leaving the UK with the goal of getting a 1986 Porsche 944 across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, finally finishing in Cape Town a few months later, in order to raise money for the Kenyan Orphans Project (KOP).
The Kenyan Orphan Project was set up in 2002 by a small group of medical students to help children in the developing world. They worked with other organisations to raise funds to build a new hospital in Kenya providing affordable healthcare for families and orphans in need. They have since set up feeding centres and an orphan housing project in a variety of locations in Kenya and run regular medical camps where teams of doctors and nurses provide free medical camps, working alongside Kenyan medics and pharmacists in areas of great need.

Our itinery takes us across Europe to Turkey, before looping through Syria and Jordan to Egypt. From there we will head south into Africa proper, battling across the scorching desert terrain of Sudan and Ethiopia to Kenya, where we will visit Kisumu near the border with Uganda and visit the Kenyan Orphan Project, where your kind donations will contribute toward KOP's next big project - a night shelter for street children in Kisumu.
After Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, still recovering from years of political unrest and genocide, will pass under our wheels before taking on the dirt tracks of Tanzania and Malawi (during the rainy season!). The final section of the journey will take us through sub-saharan Africa where the HIV/AIDS epidemic has taken its its biggest stronghold on the populations. We will travel through Zambia to the beautiful deserts and delta of Botwana before venturing into the breathtaking wilderness of Namibia. Finally, after several months camping and bartering for our stay in local villages we will arrive in the stunning city of Cape Town.
With harsh desert conditions in both North and Southern Africa, a multitude of languages and cultures to get to grips with and the rainy season of East Africa for our tired, 22 year old 2WD sports car to contend with, this expedition will be no mean feat.... even without the infamous "African Bullshit" hindering border crossings and our passage through some of the poorest countries in the World. The trip is being completely funded by the participants and all money raised through this page will go directly to the charity.
The participants have invested a great deal in this fundraising venture, including taking sabaticals from jobs and medical school. Your support is very much appreciated.
