Story
Our pre-season starts now! AFC Bluebirds are contributing towards Football Beyond Borders' challenge to travel 20,000 kilometres and raise £20,000 from now until the *postponed* Euro 2020 final on Sunday 12th July 2020.
Football Beyond Borders use football and educational programs to keep disadvantaged young people engaged in school and beyond.
Our plan is to contribute and travel a collective 1,020 kilometres and raise £1,020 in the process via any form of exercise possible. We want our 38 club members to run, cycle, walk, skip, bear crawl, whatever, so we hit our combined total and get fitter whilst doing it.
The 1020 number represents our 10 year anniversary from when our club was founded in 2010 to the present year, but it is also the exact distance travelling around the UK to our four National Stadiums starting at our home pitch, Hurlingham Park, West London then on to Hampden Park, Glasgow -> Windsor Park, Belfast -> Principality Stadium, Cardiff -> finishing at Wembley Stadium, London.
How to get involved:
>> Join the 'Football Beyond Borders' club on Strava as well as the 'AFC Bluebirds' club on Strava so you/we can track your distances and see how others are doing as we aim for our grand total.
>> Get active and donate to our JustGiving page to support the FBB Virtual school so we can support young people. When making your donation tell us how many kilometres you've covered!
>> Tell us how many miles you have completed on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook using the hashtag #FBB2020 tagging @footballbeyondborders and @afcbluebirds. Nominate people to get involved outside of the club too if you want.
The reason for the challenge:
The FBB Virtual School provides weekly academic coaching, 1 to 1 therapeutic support and inspiring creative projects for over 350 young people. It has now been running successfully for almost two months. Young people in FBB will not be returning to a normal school routine until September at the earliest, and we want to continue providing this vital support over the Summer.
