Thirteen years ago my best friends daughter, Ella Kate, passed away on 19th June at the age of 11 months after suffering from Krabbes disease
The last few months of her life were made much more comfortable by the staff and palliative care available at Martin House Children’s Hospice and the support that was offered to Sarah Paul and thier son Alex who was age 4 at the time). I am running the Great North to raise money to try and help them continue their wonderful work.
Martins House Children’s Hospice exists to complement home life and hospital and community care and accepts referrals for children with life-limiting illnesses and conditions. Referrals can be made at any time after diagnosis and no charge is made for the care and support given. Short stay care is offered to the young person and their family at intervals throughout the year where staff are on hand to discuss clinical and non-clinical issues. Martins House also offers physical and emotional support towards the end of the young person’s life and afterwards.
The WEEKLY running costs for Martins House Children’s Hospice are £30,000 and the hospice is almost entirely reliant on donations. Please donate whatever you can afford to help me to show my gratitude for everything they did for Ella and us her family when we needed it and to assist the continuing work for families that still need their care and support.
