Story
SSJ supports 3,500 people facing homelessness in Hampshire every day. The people that they work with often have diverse and complex issues surrounding homelessness, including substance/alcohol addiction and mental health problems. Their range of services includes supported housing for homeless people, drug services throughout Hampshire, Jamie’s Computers (social enterprise), and a specialist residential care home for elderly ex-homeless people.
Last year the money raised by TeamSSJ was enough to provide the equivalent of 180 nights accommodation in their intensive homelessness hostels, which made a real difference.
Funds raised in sponsorship at the Southampton Marathon, Half-Marathon or 10k will have a huge impact on local vulnerable and homeless people, enabling SSJ to offer greater access to life-skills training, to stop people remaining in the harmful cycle of homelessness and help provide them with skills around budgeting, safety and cooking/healthy eating.
