Story
Why? In a word “Margaret”!
Who? Our mum, my children´s & nephew's grandma, my dad’s wife, my aunt’s sister and much loved friend.
Mum has end stage Alzheimer´s. She is in a care home, sadly spending much of the last few years without visitors due to Covid, including her 80th Birthday. I have nothing but thanks and admiration for those who cared for her and continue to do so.
During lockdown I decided I’d like an adventure or two! I also read the Salt Path... To adventure for dementia.
So … My husband and I are walking the whole of the SW coastal path during all of May and June this year - and “yes” the kids did rather twist his arm to accompany me!
I would like to raise some money for Alzheimer’s whilst we are walking in my mum’s name, “Margaret”. Anecdotally Dementia/Alzheimer´s runs in my family. I would also like to support research so my children´s generation may not have to suffer my mother´s fate.
We have experienced first-hand the ravages of this disease,
and the joys and moments of hilarity it can bring. The Alzheimer’s Society was instrumental in helping my father cope with the onset of mum’s illness. Sadly, many of us are touched by those living and dying with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

PS I hope you like the glamorous compilation of photos of mum - Alzheimer's or not she'd kill me if she didn't look her best!
