Story
Since 2017 I have undertaken a swimming challenge as part of Swimathon and raised , from kindness of friends family and colleagues , a reasonable amount of money for these terrific charities .I have especially been motivated to do this because of the amount of people I know who have suffered from cancer in recent years including my own mother and I really admire the work that Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK do to help people with the many and various versions of this terrible disease .This year ( as I approach my 62nd birthday) is slightly different as experiencing some arthritis problems with my knees I can’t quite swim the distance I have previously . Even so I am determined to participate albeit for a shorter swim . . So we have made 2024 a family affair and wonderfully for me , my daughter Beth who spends her days working in film/ tv costume design ( who is a lot younger and a better swimmer than me !) is joining me to swim and fundraise over the Swimathon weekend . And while I aim to swim 2.5k on Saturday 26th of April at New Malden Centre pool ( more than I have managed to swim in a single session so far this year !) she will on Sunday 28th swim 5k in Kensington Leisure Centre pool . Last year I managed to raise £5000 on my own and just hoping teaming up with Beth the two of us combined can get somewhere near the same figure . With of course us reaching our targets and everyone being very kind and generous !! So do hope If you are reading this it might encourage you to donate and help us help these oh so deserving charities I will update this page in lead up and when and if we have completed the challenge.
Thanks so much for reading
Very Best

Cancer Research UK is the largest charitable funder of cancer research in the world and will stay at the forefront of the global fight against cancer. 1 in 2 of us will get cancer. All of us can support the research that will beat it. Marie Curie is here for people with any terminal illness, and those close to them from diagnosis to bereavement. Our nurses and healthcare assistants support families directly across the UK. Our free support line can help with any question about end of life. And we campaign for structural change and fund vital research that improves end of life for everyone. On 26-28 April, thousands of swimmers will be heading to over 400 pools across the UK to raise money for our two amazing charity partners. Together we can really make a difference. We invite our swimmers to tell their story to help spread awareness and raise vital funds for these two incredible causes.
