Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie are calling on the nation to get down to the pool for Swimathon 2023 - thousands of swimmers, two great causes, one big charity challenge.

Story

I have been taking part in  Swimathon for the last 7 years  for fun,  to challenge myself and perhaps most importantly to do a little bit to help these brilliant charities . I am personally very committed to do this  because of so many family and friends have been affected by cancer and with all the financial challenges out there it’s tougher than it’s ever been for charities to  raise money . So as I approach my 61st birthday somewhat foolishly have  set my largest  challenge of completing 30.9k which is nearly 10k more than I did in 2023 , to be reached over the course of three weeks swimming ( mainly ) in New Malden pool , starting next Friday on April 29th and hopefully ending on my birthday on 18th of May. I also set myself  target of getting to at least the £6k I raised last year . Of course in hope I can exceed it with people kindly supporting me. As they have always done ! So if you read this and the info below about the causes being supported I hope you will consider donating . Anything  however small will help .I will post regular updates on my ( probably slow ) but hopefully consistent progress over next few weeks. Thanks for reading and please wish me luck !

Very Best

Cancer Research UK is the largest charitable funder of cancer research in the world and will stay at the forefront of the global fight against cancer. 1 in 2 of us will get cancer. All of us can support the research that will beat it. Marie Curie is here for people with any terminal illness, and those close to them from diagnosis to bereavement. Our nurses and healthcare assistants support families directly across the UK. Our free support line can help with any question about end of life. And we campaign for structural change and fund vital research that improves end of life for everyone. On 12-14 May, thousands of swimmers will be heading to over 450 pools across the UK to raise money for our two amazing charity partners. Together we can really make a difference. We invite our swimmers to tell their story to help spread awareness and raise vital funds for these two incredible causes.
