Story
To celebrate my 50th birthday this year, I've decided to do something meaningful, rather than just drink lots of beer. Between March 31st and April 5th I plan to walk the length of the Wye River from its source in Plynlimon to its mouth at Chepstow. In total it's 137 miles and c. 18000 ft of ascent (5600 metres). Thankfully I'll be with a mate (Robbo), and we'll be carrying all our stuff for the week. Needless to say I've not done anything like this before.
I've chosen to use the walk to raise money for a charity called Ditch The Label. I was badly bullied at school from the age of 13 to 18. I'm one of the lucky ones because for whatever reason I came through it unscathed, indeed better and stronger for it. But many don't and in the digital age you can no longer leave the bullies at school.
DTL was launched based on the experiences of one individual. Since then, as a small independent charity it has grown from strength to strength, initially in the UK and now the US and Mexico. In 2014 they were finally awarded charity status. They lead the way when it comes to using digital innovation to combat bullying.
Last year their website provided help to more than 2 million young people aged between 12 and 25.
So, I don't do this very often. This walk is a big deal to me, and this charity means a lot to me, hence my ambitious target. Any support you can give, however small will be greatly appreciated and put to good use. Thanks.
