Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Joint Action is a charity that is close to my heart. They help people of all ages with musculoskeletal issues. I myself had such an issue as a teen and if it was not for the work of the Orthopaedics team at my local hospital I would have been in a wheel chair by now.
The work they do is endless;
- 17,000 babies a year are born with Orthopaedic defects, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, dislocated hips etc
- over 12,000 children a year may become ill with Rheumatiod Arthritis or bone cancer which can limit growth, cause deformity and progressive loss of mobility into adulthood
- young, fit people are regularly injured in sport and road traffic accidents. These injuries account for 40% of orphopaedic workload and are the leading cause of death in males up to the age of 45.
- Older people suffer from fractures due to fragile bones and crippling conditions such as osteoarthritis. Every 3 minutes someone in the UK in their later years sustains a bone fracture due to osteoporosis that causes a loss of their previously independent lifestyle.
This is just the start of what they do and who they help.
So it is my goal to take part in, well, as many events as I can over the next 12 months that will culminate in taking part in the 2016 London Marathon with the goal to raise a minimum of £1,500 to help support this great Charity and help fund the work and research they do everyday to help people like you and I.
So far, I have taken part in:
- Tough Mudder London West
- Tour de Vale 60km
I will also be taking part in
- Great South run
- Burnham 1/2 marathon
- Dirt half marathon
There will hopefully be many more events added to this calender I am just working out which I can fit in and I will keep you updated with the extra events I will be taking part in.
If there is anything you can contribute, any ideas you have for me to raise funds, or any races/ activities upcoming that you think I could take part in for sponsorship I would love to hear from you and would be thankful or your contribution.
Thank you
