ME/CFS (also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) can affect anyone at any point in their lives - you just never know when it will strike! It really could be you There is no test for it and no single direct cause. If you or a member of your family or perhaps a close friend has suffered with this disease then you will know how debilitating and deflating it can be. Your life can change in such a short time and, as well as the ever-present physical and mental exhaustion that the condition brings, the associated anxiety and mental anguish adds another layer of pain and suffering. Our daughter Abi has lived with ME/CFS for much of the past year and has done an amazing job of coming to terms with the changes it has brought, as well as continuing with her university studies. We are so proud of her and she uses every ounce of attitude and resilience to not let her fatigue get the better of her. She has just managed to begin contact with a specialised therapy service through the NHS - but not all areas of the country have access to this sort of help and treatment. Access to this sort of service doesn't make the disease go away, but it does help sufferers to deal with it and somehow find a way through the mental and physical fog and hardship.
I love mountain walking but tackling all three of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in a target time of 24 hours will be a real challenge. I'm aiming to raise £2,000 for the ME Association, to help them fund more research into causes and possible treatments. It would be great if you could do your bit to help me get there. Thanks.
