On 22nd May 2015 my wife Gill and I were devastated to find out that our son Remy had died during the early stages of my wife's labour. We later found out after he was born that he had died from 2 true knots in his umbilical cord. They got tighter when labour began and sadly took his life. Despite the support of the midwives, who were compassionate and fantastic throughout, unfortunately the trauma of such an ordeal is only made worse when you have to then deliver your baby within the daily hustle and bustle of a busy maternity ward.
The QEQM Hospital in Margate, where we had Remy, has been given the go ahead for a bereavement suite. This will be a dedicated suite which will give family's the privacy and comfort they desperately need to help them get through the worst time of their lives. Sound proofed walls will ensure parents are not exposed to the sound of crying babies and other families celebrating the birth of their child. Calming colours and quality soft furnishings will be used to create a comfortable setting complete with kitchenette, en-suite bathroom and a separate entrance/exit from the maternity ward.
All that is lacking is the funding. The East Kent Hospitals Charity: Precious Memories, are raising money to make this suite a possibility!
So this July 2nd I am going to be riding over 100 miles from Brighton Pier to Herne Bay Pier to raise money for this cause which is so important to us. If you want to get involved or even take part then search for Ride4Remy on Facebook or Twitter!
