Have you heard ‘swim for refugees’? If not, I’m starting it. I will be swimming Windermere to raise fun for free English classes for refugees and asylum seekers in Manchester.
I know that September might not be as warm as the last few weeks, but I am trying to be brave and commited myself to 1.5km swim in Windermere, 5th September 2018 - it is part of Open Water Swimathon 2018. (I am really scared of the cold!!)
The money I am raising is for Cornerstone’s Education Service that provides free English classes from Entry 1 up to IELTS. They also have basic Maths classes. The last couple of years, many of their graduates have successfully started university and most improved their English significantly.
They need your support to provide qualified teachers, to provide proper classrooms and equipment.
Please donate generously. If you want to visit the centre, please contact me, or call Cornerstone 0161 2328888. The new term starts in September and they need your support.
Below is the appeal message from Cornerstone:
Please can you help.
We are looking for a pot of money to support our English classes. You can donate here, or if you know of any organisations/individuals that may be willing to contribute to the costs, pleasw contact us.
Over the last couple of years Andres our Cornerstone English co-ordinator has begun various courses for our Refugee/Asylum seekers. Around 200 people are now registered with us and we run the classes five days a week! Many of our people have entered University and we see great improvements in all. We also provide food for all!!
You can help us raise money for this great cause by donating directly to the campaign page -http://campaign.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/caritassalford/cornerstonenewclassroom?social_utm_term=3b04s7xb5.
JustGiving sends your donation straight to Caritas Diocese of Salford and automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more.
Thank you for your support!
