Story

UPDATE 15/4/08

So it's all over! Thank you all for your supportive messages, prayers, cheers and of course your generosity, it really means a lot.

Sunday was a fantastic day. The weather was perfect for running and the crowd were brilliant, almost deafening in places. I was going really well until about 21 miles and then my legs got very heavy, I must have hit "the wall". But I was still delighted with my time: 3.44.13.

Thanks again

UPDATE 6/4/08

One week to go! Thank you to everyone who has donated so generously, it's really wonderful! I've got no niggling aches, coughs or colds to report, so I should be all ready for Sunday - and I'm really looking forward to it!

In case you'll be watching, my race number is 13069 and (unless it's a very cold day) I'll be wearing a red T-shirt. I'll be one among about 40,000, but you might just spot me!

Thanks again

ORIGINAL MESSAGE

Hi everyone

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I am running the London Marathon on 13 April, for The Holdsworth Memorial Hospital in Mysore, India. The hospital has a motto of “Service with Compassion” and provides for those who cannot pay for medical care, who have AIDS and are refused treatment elsewhere and who live in outlying villages and cannot travel into the city. No-one in need is turned away.

Running for The Holdsworth means a lot to me as my family has supported it for many years. In fact if you've ever sent me a letter you've probably already helped as the hospital used to raise money through selling used stamps. Hopefully my training is on track: I managed 20 wet, windy and undulating miles on 16 March! Now I'm tapering down before the big day.

The hospital relies heavily on overseas donations to cover the costs of equipment and training. If you would like to give, your donation will make a real difference to the people of Mysore and its surrounding area. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Methodist Church Fund for World Mission (which administers funding for The Holdsworth Memorial Hospital) will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Thanks so much for your support.
