Story
Cancer - a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body.
There is approximately 2.5 million people in the world today who have been diagnosed with cancer. The number of people living with cancer in the UK is increasing by 3.2% every year and around 160,000 people in the UK die from cancer every year.
I'm participating in the London Triathlon in memory of family members of mine who have lost the fight against cancer, and also anyone else who is fighting cancer. I want to help in the battle against cancer and I plan on doing all I can to help.
My dad played a big part in my decision to compete as he has been in the last two triathlons, and he has really inspired me to help raise money for people who are in dire need of our donations. I feel the work that charities do often goes unrecognised and I want to do my part to pay them back for all the great work that they have done.
Cancer is not a single disease with a single type of treatment. There are more than 200 different kinds of cancer, each with its own name and treatment. Any amount donated can help towards finding a cure for these different types once and for all.
