Story
On 10 June 2012 I will be getting on my bike to attempt the Dragon Ride. I hope to be doing the long route, 128 miles and nearly 3500 metres of climbing, but I have an injury to my shoulder which makeds climbing more difficult and may have to take the shorter one - 80 miles and 1875 m of ascent.
I will be fundraising for two projects. The University of Birmingham's pathbreaking 'Access to Birmingham' scheme encourages students from backgrounds with little or no history of higher education access to study at the University and provides support whilst they are here. I will also be supporting Professor Tim Barrett's research into the genetics of diabetes syndromes. Both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are growing in children and young people and Tim's work is helping to develop a better understanding that will help to prevent onset and, hopefully, a cure.
My training is being supported by Francois Xavier Li and his PhD students in the top-rated School of Sport and Exercise Sciences.
