Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Great North Run on 15th September 2013, in memory of my much loved Auntie Emma who sadly passed away in April 2012 after suffering from brain tumors for 10 years. Emma's example to me was her knowing how to enjoy life, she was full of 'Get up and Go', fun and laughter. My family are appreciative of the care and support provided by our local hospice at the end of Emma's life.
Hospices offer free care to their patients and also support the patient's family and friends. Hospice care can be for days, months and even years. One in two people know somebody who has been cared for by a hospice.
In the UK, £1.4 million is spent on hospice care every day.
However, on averge only 15% of hospice running costs are goverment funding. The rest is paid for using donations and help from volunteers.
