Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Adam Pereira is based in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight and is a freelance boat builder and professional sailor. He is leaving Cowes on the Isle of Wight on June 17th 2017 in a bid to cross the Atlantic single handed, round the Statue of Liberty and back home again without stopping.
He will be sailing a 39 feet Fran Blom design, which has been owned by the same family for 30 years and recently donated to Adam. The boat is called Takapu, which is a New Zealand gannet.
What is the purpose of all of this……well Adam is Type 1 Diabetic which means he has to inject insulin every time he eats. No Type 1 diabetic has ever sailed single-handed across the Atlantic and when he returns he will be donating the boat for diabetic young people to have the opportunity to learn how to sail.
Adam has 100,000 nautical miles experience offshore and has sailed on the English Commodores Cup Team, the first ever disabled team in the Admirals Cup, set the Volvo 70 record for the Round Britain and Ireland Race, competed in 4 Fastnet Races plus many others. He will sail 7000 nautical during this challenge.
Help Adam raise as much funds as possible for Diabetes UK. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
