Story
I am self-funding a trip to Ibiza to take part in a charity bike challenge for GOSH – 135km of mountain biking through rocky and mountainous terrain.
Our first child Harry was born with a congenital heart condition – Transposition of the Great arteries. When he was born, a specialist neo-natal team whisked him away for immediate treatment and monitoring. At 8 days he had his operation, open heart surgery – a 6 hour marathon that re-plumbed his heart to enable the blood to flow in the right direction.
Our stay in the hospital seems like a distant memory – Harry is a thriving, healthy, cheeky boy, and we very rarely stop to consider his early days. Units similar to GOSH made that possible – the care, support and help we received got us through those difficult days.
We are very lucky that Harry has no life-limiting consequences from his condition – GOSH deal every day with seriously ill children who do not have the happy outcome that we did. In giving to GOSH you are ensuring that many more families can benefit from new specialised care unit.
Harry and I share a passion for biking – so taking part in this event seemed a fitting way to raise money for the fantastic NHS children’s services that saved our son. Please sponsor me and raise money for this great cause.
