The Wood Street Mission opened in 1869 to support children living in poverty and still, in 2017/8 it is still needed to support over 10,000 people across Manchester and Salford with simple things that the rest of us can take for granted.  http://www.woodstreetmission.org.uk/Who-we-are/History.aspx
