Story
Hi, all
On Tuesday 7th April 2010 I was involved in an accident at work. My hand became trapped and crushed in a piece of agricultural equipment.
The paramedics and ambulance crew were on the scene straight away and through their quick thinking, i was taken to St George's Hospital that had a specialist hand unit, and not the nearest hospital.
From the moment I entered the system I was very well cared for. My world had just been turned upside down in a matter of seconds and the nurses and doctors in A and E were amazing.
I was in hospital for 10 days during which time I had four operations, concluding with the final re-building of my hand using wires pins and, skin graft. Having been released I was then back in St George's with a bone infection, where again the nurses on the ward looked after me with great care.
The last 9 months has scene me attend hospital for physiotherapy at least twice a week. The department that have looked after me has been the Hand Therapy Department. Without their expertise I would not be in the position I am now.
Currently I am still attending the hand unit and movement in my left hand is improving all the time. I owe a great deal to all the hard work put in by every one, but I feel especially indebted to all who work in the Hand Therapy Department at St George's Hospital.
All proceeds raised from this half marathon are going directly to the Hand Therapy Department.
Big thanks to Lisa and Tommi for getting involved.
Anyway must go and try out my new Christmas trainers.

All the training was worth it...!!!
Last Sunday the Silverstone Half Marathon was completed by myself, Lisa and Tommie.
My time was: 01:39:45
Lisa's time was: 01:58:12
Tommi's time was: 02:00:49
It was an early start leaving the house at around 7:00 am, the sky was clear though, and there was even a hint of sunshine in the air
Lisa and Tommi were early birds too, arriving at Silverstone about 2 hours prior to the run.
Once all stretched, changed, ipoded and watered. We headed out to the track.
With the sun now shinning, and a slightly chilly wind, I think we pretty much had the ideal running conditions.
Off went the gun, and off we went. Exciting!!
As the run progressed the wind seemed to pick up a bit, especially the last two miles (or was that just me).
A great day of achievement was had by us all, and for a very worthy cause.
Thank you for sponsoring Lisa, Tommi and myself.
The amount of money raised has been amazing and over the next few months will be totaled up and handed over to the hand therapy unit at St George's. I myself have now got a date for my next hand operation,so shall find myself back in the very capable hands of hand therapy department at St George's Hospital.
Thank you again.
Adam
PS I will be back in touch with you all to let you know how the money has been spent.
