Story
Hi Everyone, thanks for visiting my JustGiving page!
I’ve been lucky enough to secure a charity place for the most iconic running event there is: the London Marathon! All being well with the vaccination programme and lifting of restrictions, the race will take place as planned on October 3rd.
I’ll be running to raise funds and awareness for the MS Society, as part of their ‘MS Superstars’ team, and I can’t thank them enough for giving me the opportunity to run London as my first marathon, especially in a year where places are in even higher demand than usual.
MS stands for Multiple Sclerosis, which is a neurodegenerative condition that disrupts the messages sent from the brain to the rest of the body, causing a loss of function over time, ultimately leading to disability (you can read more here https://www.mssociety.org.uk/about-ms/what-is-ms).
My Grandad, David, has sadly suffered from the progressive form (there is another type, called relapsing) of this cruel disease for as long as I have been alive, and seeing his condition deteriorate over the years is just heartbreaking. I can’t even begin to imagine the physical and emotional toll this has also taken on my Grandma, Lesley, giving unconditional love and support throughout.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for MS, but there are multiple treatments available to help those living with the condition, as well as ongoing research by the MS Society and others, to find new treatments. Alongside this research, the MS Society provide amazing care and support for those living with, and affected by, Multiple Sclerosis.
This is where your donations will go, and they go a long way. For example, £10 could fund physiotherapy equipment to help MS sufferers with their movement, and £50 pays for one hour of microscope time, to help researchers further their understanding of the biological impacts of MS. My initial target of £2500 would fund two and half months’ worth of lab equipment for the MS Society Tissue Bank, one of the most vital resources in advancing understanding of MS. You can read more about where the money goes here https://www.mssociety.org.uk/research/explore-our-research/our-research-priorities/how-your-money-is-spent.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and read my story, every donation means the world to myself, my family, and everyone else living with or affected by MS, especially during the pandemic, when charity fundraising has taken a massive hit. Please keep an eye out on here and on my social media for future fundraising events, and you can follow my training on Strava below!
Together, we can stop MS.
Thank you so much,
Adam ❤
