As some of you may or may not know my mother was diagnosed with this awful disease in 2012 and due to the difficulty diagnosing ovarian cancer it was stage 4 which is the worst stage to catch it. She was given 18 months to live and fortunately was able to fight for another 7 years through the help of the medicine on offer and family support. Until ultimately taking her last breath in September 2019 just a week after my sisters abroad wedding which she watched with me by her side on tv with a smile as she was too ill to travel to the French venue and a few weeks before my son William was born which was a huge shame for her to miss out on but she gave it everything to be there so I couldn’t be more proud. Hence his name William Jacque. Just to make things a little more stressful I also had to move house with my family and friends help the day before my mums funeral all before William was allowed out of hospital due to a few complications.

Watching the fight my mum put up throughout and especially in her last few days was quite incredible and inspiring when she couldn’t walk or get out of bed unaided. She always remained happy, positive and as selfless as ever.

So I have decided to take on my own challenge having found running a huge help to get my head around the grief of that time. I want to raise some money to hopefully enable earlier diagnosis and ultimately try to help cure this disease so everyone has there daughters, mothers and nans around for a few more Christmas’s 😁

This challenge will never match up to my mothers but is about as tough a race as you can hope to enter. So what is it? Described as the toughest foot race on earth. Essentially it’s 6 day ultra marathon where you carry all your food, water, sleeping bag, clothes and equipment in your backpack to complete the race.

I’ve never even completed an ultra marathon let alone one in the Sahara desert in 50 degree heat running on sand everyday and up dunes but it should be a great experience. 😳
