CRY Heart of London Bridges Walk 2023
- Every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of
undiagnosed heart conditions. Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) do phenomenal work preventing young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening, research, and supporting affected families. - CRY's flagship event is a 5.5 mile walk through central
London, held annually the bridges walk hopes to give supporters the opportunity to connect with others, and remember those who have died from Young Sudden Cardiac Death (YSCD).
I’m walking for my beautiful son Jake who suffered a sudden and fatal cardiac arrest on 6th December 2022 whilst doing what he loved, playing football.
Whilst I’m probably biased, but from the time he could walk, Jake was a phenomenal football player and prolific goal scorer, although I'm also certain that this is something that his teammates past and present would support.
Jake quite literally was the smartest person I have ever known, with a BSc in Nuclear Physics and an MSc in Nuclear Energy, I was unbelievably proud when he turned his talents to Proton therapy (Using very high energy beams for the treatment of inoperable cancers), doing something good and positively contributing to the lives of thousands of people that he or I will never know.
Jake really was very funny, Marcus (Jakes younger brother) said recently that Jake was both the funniest and most introverted extrovert he has ever known, and I love that description.
I will be forever proud of Jake for the person that he was and the young man that he become.
To Jake, I love and miss you so very much, Love Dad x
