On Sunday, 9th April 2017, I will be starting the Marathon des Sables a six-day, 251 km (156 mile) ultramarathon which is approximately the distance of six regular marathons across the Sahara desert in Morroco. The longest single stage is 91km (57 miles) long.

The Marathon des Sables is considered to be the toughest foot race on Earth.

I have also just recovered from a stress fracture in my right tibia and have not been able to train for the last 4 months. Therefore, I am going into this in the worst state possible.

I'll be running in the memory of my mother, Barbara Hargreaves, who lost her battle with breast cancer 21 years ago.
