Girls around the world experience shame and embarrassment when they start their period and struggle to access the support and information they need to be confident and comfortable during menstruation.
In Uganda over half of girls are using improvised materials ranging from rags to corn husks and banana leaves to manage menstruation and missing school during their periods.
In the UK 1 in 10 girls have been unable to afford pads and receive no preparation at all before their first period.
