Story
We all might have said of ourselves, at one time or another, that we are "a little bit OCD'.
But....
OCD is not about just being overly tidy, and it's not a humorous way to describe someone who is just being a little particular. OCD is a debilitating illness that can leave a sufferer dealing with the onslaught of intrusive disturbing thoughts, and feeling trapped by compulsive behaviours they think are the only way to alleviate them. It can bring with it the stigma of suffering with a mental health condition, meaning some struggle alone and in silence. I myself have fought an ongoing battle with OCD, which has at times left me seriously ill, and my family very worried. Many other people continue to suffer with this often misunderstood condition. I want to use my experience, and this rally opportunity to raise awareness of OCD, the struggle many go through, and the work of those seeking to help them.
OCD Action is a charity that has a helpline, provides support groups (some online), operates an advocacy service, as well as a youth support service for those under 25. It also works to make people more aware of the condition and challenge the misconceptions and stigma.
£10 can pay for an online support session for 20 worried parents
£32 can pay for one hour of one-to-one support with someone suffering
£100 can pay to recruit and train a Helpline volunteer, in turn helping hundreds
£450 can pay for a facilitated 'meet up day' for 20 young people suffering with OCD
Any amount we can raise can make a difference, and can help what is a misunderstood mental health condition. Please give what you can.
Thank you so much
Adam
