Adam's 100 Mile Swim

100 Mile Swim · 30 October 2021
Im going to be swimming 100 miles between the 1st and 10th of December to raise money for MIND. But why have I chosen MIND?
Over the last couple years mental health issues have really come to the forefront of public attention. With more people being made aware of the effect poor mental health can have on their lives. This has only been made worse through the pandemic, resulting in waiting times to get help becoming ridiculously long. With every year 1 in 4 people experiencing a mental health problem and 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (like anxiety and depression) in any given week in England. its important to find ways to help.
After a rough couple of years myself I finally acknowledged that my own mental health had deteriorated and reached out for help. I have seen first hand the effect that getting help can have, not only on my mental health but other aspects of my life as well. I was lucky that I was able to pay privately to get help, but for some people that's not an option
Unfortunately for some people they don't get the help they need in time with 1 in 15 people attempting suicide. Approximately only 1 in 8 adults with a mental health problem are currently getting any kind of treatment. One day by continuing to raise awareness and improve services hopefully we can stop these numbers rising.
Any money no matter how small you can give will mean a lot to me as someone who's suffered with mental health problems. But could also be the difference for the friends and family members who might be looking for help themselves that you're not aware of yet.
thank you
Adam
