Further to the story on our main A cure for George page, the last year has seen us trying to come to terms with George's diagnosis. I doubt we'll ever fully achieve this, but we are so proud of the way he is coping with his condition and the challenges this presents him on a day to day basis.
Unfortunately, the dark cloud of how Becker Muscular Dystrophy will develop for him in future years is never far away, given we know it ultimately impacts his heart, lungs and life expectancy. However, a positive focus for us is fundraising to fund research into this awful and currently incurable muscle wasting condition. As a soon to be 7 year old George does have time on his side and who knows what breakthroughs there will be as he gets older if more research can be funded...
So, to build on last year's tough, tough ride, this year we have upped it and gone for (to quote the internet) 'One of the oldest sportives in the cycling calendar and still the ultimate cycling test'. This will see myself and 6 equally worried friends take on 174km and 5200m of climbing (equivalent to sea level to Everest base camp) in one day during July in the alps. Apparently 'There are not many tougher single day sportives in the world'. We are unsure whether we will be able to complete it but will give it our best go knowing that a bit of pain on one day for us is nothing compared to what George and others with his or similar conditions go through on a day to day basis.
Thank you very much for visiting this page, your time, awareness and sponsorship mean a lot to me, my family and particularly George! :)
Thanks,
Adam
