This summer Leigh-Paul and I intend on cycling 500 miles around the UK & Ireland to raise money and awareness for Stick 'n' Step.
Stick ‘n’ Step are a local charity who provide free conductive education to help children and young people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities improve their mobility, confidence and independence.
Following complications after birth our son incurred a brain injury which left him with cerebral palsy. In an effort to improve Mason’s chances of an independent life we began to look for additional help and found Stick ‘n’ Step.
Stick ‘n’ Step kindly agreed to work with Mason and since he started to attend we felt we had to try and repay their kindness by completing a variety of sponsored events. We have walked, run and cycled so far but now we want to go BIGGER.
Using Stick ‘n’ Step as the start/end position I began to think about cycling through each of the countries that make up the United Kingdom and Ireland, totalling 500 miles.
We will leave Stick ‘n’ Step on 1st June 2019 and head across the North Wales coast. A ferry ride to Dublin will be followed by 2 days making our way up to Belfast where we will get another ferry over to Stranraer. From there we will cycle to Dumfries, Penrith and Blackpool before our final day cycling back to Stick ‘n’ Step.
It costs Stick ‘n’ Step on average £4,500 per year to look after each child. Hopefully with this ride we can raise some much needed funds as well as awareness for an amazing charity who are doing unbelievable work for children with cerebral palsy across the North West.
