On Monday 14th April 2014 at 12.19am , Abigail Sally Boyd was born weighing 7lb 7oz. Sadly our precious baby girl did not even take a breath and was taken from us before we could even say hello. We will never see her smile and will never know what type of person she would have grown up to be. Craig and Karina will never get to laugh and play with their little sister.
Abigail blessed our lives over the last nine months as we made preparations to welcome her into our family. Our excitement grew as we attended scans and felt her increasingly frequent kicks - especially in the middle of the night! Her due date passed and we waited in anticipation for her arrival. On Saturday 12th April we became concerned as I stopped feeling movements. At 2 am we phoned the hospital and they asked us to come in. We will never forget the silence in the room and the look on the midwife's face as she tried to find the heartbeat. Silence! Two doctors were called to perform a scan but we already knew that our baby was gone.
I gave birth to Abigail the following day and we spent the next day with her by our sides. We sang songs to her, told her stories and took photos. We will cherish forever the memories of that day and the cuddles and closeness which we shared.
Saying goodbye to Abigail at the hospital was the hardest thing we have ever had to do and we left the hospital holding only her memory box, which was donated by SANDS. In it, was a lock of her hair, a memory card with her hand prints and foot prints, a hand knitted blanket which Abigail was wrapped in, a teddy for Abigail to take with her, and lots of information on support for us. Memories are all we have to hold onto now so our memory box will forever be our most treasured possession. We have a long road ahead of us and when we are ready, the work that SANDS do and the support they offer will be a comfort to us.
The staff at the hospital were amazing and we can't thank them enough for the care, support and comfort they showed us as we prepared ourselves for her birth and for making our day together so special.
The tragedy of her death has left us with so many unanswered
questions and therefore we have set up this page to help raise money for research and
support for families in similar situations.
Abigail's beautiful face with her chubby cheeks and tiny button nose will remain in our hearts forever.
Abigail,
Mummy and Daddy love you more with every beat of our hearts.
Sleep tight my baby girl.
