Story
Finally after a year and a half of taking the time to recover from brain surgery, I’m now in a position to take on some new physical challenges! My little sis Lexi is also participating this year, she will be doing the 5k race on the Saturday! I’ve chosen to take part in The Great North run this year, in honour of my Uncle Daz who devastatingly passed away earlier this month. He was a lover of all sports and he too completed The Great North Run. We both feel doing this for him, my Auntie JuJu, Jack, Hannah and Sophie is a way to show my support during this hard time.
I have chosen to run for Sarcoma which is a cancer charity for bone and soft tissue. My Auntie Juliet is currently undergoing treatment for the development of sarcoma and will be undergoing surgery to remove the cancerous tumour very soon. My Uncle Daz supported her in every way possible during her previous treatments and explained to their children the reality of having sarcoma and what their Mum’s future would entail. Their strength has completely amazed me, the love derived together to battle such hardships is truly outstanding.
Before Juliet was diagnosed I had never really heard of what sarcoma was. I feel that much more awareness needs to be driven throughout our daily lives of what this cancer is. Sarcoma can affect absolutely anyone. The biggest lesson I’ve learnt this year is that anything truly can happen to anyone- you never know when it’s your time. I will be raising funds for a cause that will spread awareness of this disease and further research sarcoma; which will in turn save lives.
This is going to be a challenge after only running 10km as a maximum prior, but I know from seeing the strength throughout my family this last month; we truly can do anything.
