Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am walking 10 miles a day in February to raise awareness of the incredible support services that Women's Aid in Perthshire offer, and to support Refuge who offer similar services to survivors of domestic abuse.
Only a year ago, my children and I left a refuge in the Fair City. Domestic Abuse changed the landscape of my family's life, and I resisted going into refuge. If I'm honest, at the time, I saw it as the last rung on the ladder, a failure if you will. I hated that we were the ones who had to leave everything behind. Today however, I can tell you with every cell in my body that it was the right decision, a brave decision that changed the landscape, for my little family, for the better. The support we have received from Women's Aid has been humbling, if I can help others to receive essential support in such dark times, then I'll walk till I can't walk any more!
I originally signed up to walk 2 miles a day for a fundraiser for Refuge, who offer the same support services, but not in this area. After an overwhelming response to my original fundraiser (I've already raised £518 so far with that face book page fundraiser) I decided that it was only correct to shine a light on the wonderful work that Women's aid do locally, and try to pay it forward for other women and children who find themselves in the position my family did. I wanted to up the walk from 2 to 10 miles a day to reflect going over and above what was expected....which is exactly the response I got when I contacted Women's Aid in Perthshire.
As I write this, I'm 7 days into the challenge, and am already on target to hit 73 miles in total for my first weeks walking.
