Story
Walk 4 Wildlife is a charity relay walk from Lands End to John O'Groats. Each team will be raising money for one of five causes to help protect endangered wildlife around the world. My leg takes place on Wednesday 13th April 2016 from Radstock to Pucklechurch. Give us a wave if you're passing by!
Due to circumstances beyond their control, the organisers cancelled my leg. I will now be walking on Sunday 4th September between Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common in London. My odd-toed feet will be walking around 18 miles in total and I can't wait!
I'll be walking for Save the Rhino International (SRI) because rhinos need our help. Rhinos are being killed every day (one every eight hours) by poachers who want their horn. Rhino horn is used by consumers in Asia - in traditional medicine or as a status symbol (a sign of wealth). SRI helps all five species of rhino - all of which are classified as critically endangered.
Did you know, it's not just rhinos SRI help. They support rangers by providing essential equipment, communities through educational programmes, and the anti-poaching dogs (who have the most amazing noses!)
In 2014, I had the opportunity to care for an ever growing number of orphan rhinos in South Africa. Each orphan arrived in a traumatised state having lost its mother at the hands of poachers. It was wonderful to see these vulnerable young calves overcome their trauma and learn what it takes to be a rhino and make rhino buddies.
There are so many amazing people busting a gut each day to protect and save these adorable 'odd-toed' animals. Their dedication is an inspiration and this is why I'm raising money for SRI.
Thank you so much for your kind donation and I will be sure to keep you updated on my progress. I really do hope I manage to achieve the fundraising target. Even better if I surpass it!!!!
