Everyone had that favourite relative as a kid; the one that put a smile on your face at boring family meals. The one that used to pull silly faces when no one except you were watching, the one who always helped you build the coolest fort. That person for me was my uncle Geoff, who I called Binks. As a kid I never knew his personal battle with his mental health; it’s impact on him and those who loved him. Tragically when I was a teenager he took his own life. I often wonder the role he would of played in my life; the jokes we could have shared, the adventures we would have planned if he was to have received the support he needed to overcome his battles.
This year I’ve signed up to paddle the @trent100k, a 100km paddleboard race over two days! I’m also attempting to summit 22 peaks in 2022, compete in @supbikerun, complete the Yorkshire 3 peaks in under 10 hours and just for a giggle, fit in a few more SUP races! To motivate me and to support others I’m raising money for @mindcharity for all those amazing relatives and friends who we all love to spend time with who struggle with their mental health in spite of making us feel loved, cared for and not alone.
I’d love you to support me by giving the loose change down your sofa or forfeiting your next takeaway. Just giving link in my bio - much love Abs x.
