Mental health and behavioural problems (e.g. depression, anxiety and drug use) are reported to be the primary drivers of disability worldwide. Major depression is thought to be the second leading cause of disability worldwide and a major contributor to the burden of suicide. It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem and 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem each year.
We can all relate to moments in our lives when our mental health perhaps hasn’t been ideal for us. This could be anything from stress and anxiety, to depression, bipolar, OCD etc. We may even know family and friends who have battled their own mental health problems.
Personally, mental health has been a prevalent aspect of my life, with friends, family members and myself battling mental health problems. I have seen how poor mental health can impact the individuals day to day lives and even impact the lives of those supporting them. No one should have to face a mental health problem alone.
