Story
Hello everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. This summer I am spending a month in Fiji volunteering with the Think Pacific Foundation, a grassroots charity founded by University of Leeds alumni
which works closely with the Fijian government to improve the quality of life in a country which is almost completely isolated from the rest of the world.
However, the goals of this organisation could never be achieved without the time, money and efforts dedicated by their volunteers - through helping to improve the education system, through sports coaching and through the promotion of health and hygiene.
During my month in Fiji, I will have the opportunity to live as the Fijian people do, without electricity or any other luxuries that we take for granted here in the UK. I will be living alongside a Fijian family, having the chance to fully embrace their culture and see life through another perspective whilst having a once in a lifetime opportunity to teach the future generations of the Fijian islands alongside making a genuine positive impact on such a vibrant and amazing community. (Less than 5% of children in Fiji's rural areas have access to early years education.)
The money you donate will go towards the countless resources that are so vital for this cause, a few examples include essential training for volunteers, pencils, books, sports equipment, training for teachers in Fiji, health equipment, hygiene workshops, and so on.
Even a small donation goes a long way, so even if your pockets aren't particularly deep (times are tough, I know that) please give generously. For those of you who remember when I went volunteering in Togo last summer with ICS, the children I worked with were always so enthusiastic and eager to learn, and I am told the children in Fiji are no different. The opportunities they have compared to children in the developed world are much fewer and farther between, and it's up to us to reduce these inequalities around the globe.
Many thanks again,
Abby
