Story
On the 7th October 2021, I was front seat passenger in a life changing car crash where I sustained many injuries, including breaking my back, femur, tibia, and other things. Through this first year of recovery I have had to cope with an ilizarov frame on my leg, which has allowed me to grow 4cm of bone which I had lost in the accident.
The people who saved my life and gave me a second chance were the fire fighters (from Fleet, Hartley Whitney, Rushmoor and Basingstoke), they spent 3 hours carefully removing me from the vehicle so that I wouldn’t lose my leg which was a contemplated option at the scene, and a debated situation until only around 4 months ago. I will never ever be able to thank all of them enough for changing my life, so fingers crossed this will be a big enough gesture with lots of cake for them too.
I’m planning on trying to complete a 5 mile walk on the 15th October 2022, a year since I had my ilizarov frame on. I am still adjusting to the 9kg weight screwed through my lower leg, but I hopefully will be able to do the walk (probably will need a coffee stop midway through!)
After being in a wheelchair, using a walking frame, moving to crutches and then eventually walking- it has been an extremely tough year but this will be way further than I have walked since the accident.
Please give all you can to support the firefighters who are the most incredible people I have ever met, and they don’t get enough recognition! Even the smallest donation makes an incredible difference! Thank you & Love you <3
