Story

Our team will be walking 46 miles for Kidney care UK without stopping. we have myself, Abbey Jones. Joe Anderson, Jess Pritchard and Chad O'Connor and anyone else who wishes to join this challenging walk that we hope to complete in 15 hours. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page I have had Type 1 diabetes since I was eight years old. I have managed my blood sugar with daily insulin injections and eating sugary foods if my blood sugar gets too low – which it often does when I exercise. Not great when you’re trying to live a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Three years ago, after being knocked off my motorbike, I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD), which is a complication from my diabetes. Whilst i was in hospital my doctors noticed my blood pressure was high and ran some tests. Tiredness, shortness of breath and feeling nauseous was only some of my symptoms. Over time my kidney function decreased. Earlier this year my renal doctors agreed it was time for a transplant. Instead of opting for a straight kidney donation from a live donor, Me and my wife Georgina decided it would be best to get a ‘simultaneous’ donation of a kidney and pancreas, meaning I can get rid of my diabetes at the same time. However, there was a problem. To be accepted onto the list for a transplant, I needed a BMI of maximum 28 – and mine was 35. In June my kidney function dropped further to 15%.I was determined to get on the transplant list.I knew something had to change so I could be their for my wife and two children. This is when I started walking. Now i am running 5-10km a day and weight training. Since April I have lost 5 stone And I have a BMI of 25.6 This has been a difficult journey and I want to give something back to Kidney care Uk so I have decided to set a challenge walking for 46 miles to Blackpool, Along with some of my family members and friends. I hope to complete this within 15 hours. Setting off from my home address at 05.00am on 20.03.21. Edit due to restrictions we will mow be walking on 24.04.21
