Story
20 years ago, the family received a fairly life-changing diagnosis - aged 5, Alex was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic.
Type 1 diabetes can impact day to day life, both in terms of managing blood sugar levels and dealing with the mental aspect of living with a chronic health condition. It’s a 24/7 job with no holidays or time off, but the support from those around you makes all the difference.
Whilst a serious, albeit mostly manageable condition, there are a great number of organisations and charities dedicated to providing support and advice to those who need it - not just for type one diabetics, but for the millions of people in the UK and around the world that live with any type of diabetes. Diabetes UK is such a charity - raising awareness of all types of diabetes, campaigning for change both in terms of healthcare provision and dismantling stereotypes, and providing tangible help and guidance for those who need it - regardless of whether it is those living with diabetes or their families and friends.
To mark two decades since Alex’s diagnosis, the three Sadler sisters - Annabel, Alex, and Vicki - have (willingly!) decided to run the Great North Run 2024 in Newcastle this coming September. All donations given will go directly to supporting the incredibly important work that Diabetes UK does.
Thank you for all support and donations, they are greatly appreciated.
Love,
The Sadlers
PS: All in-person supporters are very welcome at the race itself!
