Story
I'm running the Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon in March 2021.
Cardiac and vascular diseases are the cause of death for 1 in 4 in the UK. The work that the British Heart Foundation does tries to reduce this, improving outcomes and lives! I have seen first hand the effect that this charity has had both professionally and personally.
For those that don't know, my late Grandfather, Mike, was a walking and talking cardiac nightmare: multiple heart attacks, a triple coronary artery bypass graft, a subsequent quadruple coronary artery bypass graft, diabetes and congestive cardiac failure, to name but a few.
Patients I have attended with long term or indeed acute cardiac illnesses are getting closer to my own age - A scary thought. Research shows that reaching and keeping to a healthy weight cuts your risk of heart and circulatory diseases because it helps prevent and manage conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes that put you at greater risk of coronary heart disease - moving a little more and having something to train for is my way of achieving this .
Any donations to this fantastic cause will be gratefully achieved as I plod on to achieve the goal of finishing the 13.1 miles.
Stay tuned for updates!
