Story

Swimming is like nothing else.  I am passionate about it and everyone should get the chance to do it, but not everyone can! Level Water use the power of swimming to improve lives for children with disabilities. It gives them a sense of freedom, being able bodied and builds confidence not only in but out of the water too.  Everyone should have the opportunity to fall in love with the water and learn to be safe when in it. Do you agree?

So with this in mind members of the Thames Dunkers are making a splash to support the cause and would love your support to reach our collective target! We are training hard, in the Thames, at the pool, in the pond and even in the sea. Some of us are even overcoming our own fears of swimming in open water, let alone swimming in open water at night. We are doing distances we haven't achieved before, overcoming physical and mental barriers. Its a proper challenge. I myself have signed up for an hour of breastroke at 2am in the morning in the pitch black, without a wetsuit. (Breastroke is impossible in a wetsuit) it’s going to be daunting, but I’m up for the challenge! Pass me my goggles! I’ve got this…I hope!

This swim will be tiring, 8 of us over 24 hours - a swim relay like no other! We’ll be covering over 45km between us at least, so if you can, please get involved and spare us a penny or two for this great cause.

Team Captain: Steve Barry

Team members: Aaron Collins, Anne Feildhouse, Bill McMiken, Nysia Sewell, Richard Lazell, Sian Philips and Terence Labuschagne
