This July I’ll be running 8km every day for 31 days in the efforts to raise funds for the mental health services provided by the people at Pieta House.
Do you remember when you were 15?
Dean would’ve been one of my closest friends when we were younger. I remember at that age we had no sense of responsibility in any way. We were just normal teenagers. We’d play football on the green, build a base, fight with eachother, forget about it the day after and go to parties sharing a Can one of us snuck out of our houses - And anytime we did something we weren’t supposed to do Dean had an uncanny knack at getting caught - I can’t remember a single time he got away with something.
Although we had little to no responsibilities, Dean always had his struggles and over the years as we got older, and went different ways, we went from walking home from school together, getting chicken fillet rolls early on weekend mornings to an odd text a couple times throughout the year on how we needed to catch up. But we never did, and this month last year deans struggle grew too strong and he passed away. Now, I’d go back and take the blame every single time if I could catch up with him once more.
Dean’s passing took a toll on many people around him, myself included. Since hearing the news, I’d been torn up by it and as of late I think something should be built from that rubble.
This fundraiser isn’t solely for pieta house, it’s for funding the battle against suicide itself, a battle that my friend lost at 19 years old there are many more like him still fighting.
Anything helps, if you can, donate - and please share.
