In September we will be cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Almost 1,000 miles with the equivalent climbing of twice Everest over the course of 9 days. Over 100 miles a day, the same as London to Brighton and back every day for 9 consecutive days. Not even a comfy bed to welcome a sore backside and aching legs at the end each day, we'll be sleeping in a bloody tent!
So why Macmillan Cancer Support? Macmillan are there for everyone affected by cancer offering support and advice from point of diagnosis onwards. Their goal is to improve the lives of everyone living with cancer in the UK.
While we have our own reasons for supporting Macmillan, with cancer being the indiscriminate disease that it is, we're sure that you will have your own personal stories of family or friends who have be affected by cancer. We'd love to have their names and get them printed onto a cycling jersey that we will wear on the ride so that each pedal stroke will be for lots of people. I'm sure that thought will give us strength to push on through the dark times on the ride.
How's training going? Well let's just say that the Beast from the East (remember that?) and this remarkable heatwave have been jolly good excuses to cut short the odd ride. One of us has put in a tad more training on the bike than the other, but I'm sure that Kieran is mentally prepared for the task ahead at the very least.
Our aim is to raise £5,000, so dig deep people.
